Three Days. Three Unique Competition Formats.
One of the reasons players love grass nationals is that every day offers a different style of play, giving athletes the opportunity to compete in multiple events throughout the weekend.
Friday: Men's & Women's Doubles
Friday features traditional men's and women's doubles competition. With just two players covering the court, doubles rewards speed, communication, and consistency. It's the perfect format for players who enjoy fast-paced rallies and strategic shot-making.
Saturday: Men's, Women's, and Junior's Triples
Saturday shifts to triples, where teams of three compete on the same grass court. Adding a third player changes the strategy, allowing for more defensive coverage while still demanding strong teamwork and ball control. Triples has become one of the most popular formats in grass volleyball because it balances athleticism with exciting, extended rallies. By the way, our version of triples will be rally scoring, short court, and block counts as a touch.
Sunday: Reverse Coed (RevCo) Doubles
Sunday wraps up the weekend with Reverse Coed Doubles, often abbreviated as RevCo. In this unique format, each team consists of one man and one woman, but with reverse coed rules that create exciting matchups and strategy. If you've never played RevCo before, many players consider it one of the most entertaining formats in outdoor volleyball.
Which Division Should You Play At AVP Grass Nationals 2026?
One of the biggest questions players ask before grass nationals in 2026 is, "What division should I enter?"
Grass Nationals offers four adult skill divisions so players can compete against teams of similar ability.
Open is the highest level of competition. This division features elite athletes, former collegiate standouts, professional players, and intense competitors chasing the BIG prize money payout from the $21,000 weekend purse.
AA is designed for highly competitive players with significant tournament experience. Teams at this level regularly compete in advanced outdoor events and are comfortable playing at a fast pace.
A is an intermediate competitive division. Many participants have league or tournament experience and are looking for solid competition without entering the Open or AA fields.
BB is perfect for newer tournament players or recreational competitors who want a fun but more entry-level event experience to see what the hype is all about. If this is your first major grass tournament, BB is often the best place to start building confidence and experience.
